Balanced Literacy

Balanced literacy is a framework designed to help all children read and

write effectively. This program uses instruction that is based on student

need and allows all students to make progress in a classroom environment

that is not too frustrating for them.

Balanced Literacy is based on a literacy collaborative model supported

by the research of Marie Clay, Irene Fountas, and Gay Sue Pinnell.

Students receive instruction in a child centered classroom that provides

opportunities for real- life reading and writing.
